Warriors Lose Conference Series, Split Day at SDCC

San Diego Christian took two-of-three in conference play; Kasparian goes 5-for-5 with five RBI in the finale

LAKE ELSINORE, Calif. – After a split to start the series on Friday, the Warriors got back on the field Saturday looking to start the GSAC season with a series win. Play the first game, counting towards their conference record, the Warriors, walk away with a split, losing the game that will matter more in the hunt for the postseason.

San Diego Christian won the first game of the day, 11-3, taking two-of-three counting towards conference play. The GSAC switched to a three-game series format for the 2023 season.

Jessup scored early as Kayde Iranon, starting a second base for the first time this season, drove Jessup's first run on an RBI double. But the momentum did not last as the Hawks scored in four straight innings, eventually leading to an 11-1 lead.

Brandon Springer continued his red-hot streak in the eighth with another solo home run, but it would be a moot point in an eight-run loss.

Kimo Wilinski was tagged with the loss after 1.2 innings of work. Caleb Markwith, Charlie Perkins, and Jason Riviello were all tagged for runs in relief.

The series finale then followed, and while the game did not count towards Jessup's GSAC record, the 18-5 win does provide a bright spot to end the weekend.

Highlighting the finale was catcher Nick Kasparian as the switch-hitter went a perfect 5-for-5 with five RBI and two runs scored. Nate Van Patten was also perfect at the dish, finishing 3-for-3 with four runs scored.

Jessup recorded five extra-base hits in the win, two coming from Kasparian. Chris Cook hit his second homer of the season, a three-run shot that had Jessup leading 5-3.

Preston Brook earned the victory after two scoreless innings in relief. Keola Yim got the starting nod, allowing three runs on two hits over three innings.

The Warriors continue the season on Tuesday when they visit Menlo for a non-conference game.
