ATHERTON, Calif. – For the second consecutive game, the Warriors squared off against a GSAC rival in a game that did not count towards GSAC records. Taking on the Menlo Oaks Tuesday afternoon, the Warriors relied on their bats to carry them to victory on a windy day in the Bay Area.
Wind speeds of over 45 mph filled Cartan Field for Tuesday's contest. Unfortunately, fans attempting to tune into the game were out of luck as the strong winds caused the field to lose power in just the top of the first.
But while Cartan Field was without power, the Warriors possessed an abundance of it. Jessup left the ballpark three times in a 14-10 victory.
The first big shot of the day came in the second inning when shortstop Brennan Rozell blasted a three-run homer that put his side ahead 4-3. Three batters later, Chris Cook left the yard on a two-run shot that capped off a five-run inning.
Jessup was not done with the big innings, as they plated six runs in the fourth to go ahead 13-5. The inning saw catcher
Nick Kasparian clear the bases on a three-run double, which made Kasparian 7-for-7 with eight RBI over his last seven at-bats, stretching back to Saturday's 18-5 victory over SDCC.
The Warriors looked to
Preston Brook to eat up some innings out of the bullpen in this one. Brook entered the game in the third and proceeded to toss 5.1 innings, his longest outing with the team. Brook allowed four runs (all earned) on seven hits, striking out seven during that time.
Mason Azevedo earned the start, lasting two innings.
Charlie Perkins tossed the final 1.2 innings in relief.
The Oaks made a late charge in the sixth and seventh innings, plating a pair in both frames to cut within four. However, the final insurance run came in the top of the eighth when
Kayde Iranon hit his second home run of the season, giving the Warriors a 14-9 advantage. Menlo would then add one in the ninth.
Now 7-8, the Warriors have won back-to-back games for the first time this season.
Jessup will return to the diamond this weekend as they welcome the OUAZ Spirit to McBean Park. The final dates of the three-game series are currently in jeopardy as rain is expected to hit Lincoln over the weekend. This morning the two sides started working on a plan to potentially play game one on Thursday night.
As more information on this weekend's series becomes available, updates will be shared at jessupathletics.com and on Twitter (@Jessup_BASE).
