Comeback Bid Falls Short as Jessup Drops 54-45 Battle to the Oaks

The Warriors cut within four twice in the second half; Jessup will play their final two home games next week

ATHERTON, Calif. – On the road was the Warriors Saturday, taking on Menlo College in a pivotal GSAC matchup. With both teams battling to make the GSAC postseason, the game went down to the wire as the hosting Oaks edged out the win. 54-45.

The outcome drops the Warriors to 8-6 in GSAC competition. Jessup sits tied with The Master's for fifth place, as the top six teams qualify for the postseason.

Menlo improves to 10-4, placing them one step closer to a spot in the conference tournament that will take place on their home floor later this month.

Kayla Vieira led the Warriors in scoring, as the sophomore dropped 11 points on 5-of-14 from the floor. She also pulled down four boards. Makaila Glynn closed the night behind her, totaling ten points and five boards.

Nearly missing another double-double was guard Andrea Jovicevic. Jovicevic scored nine points to pair with 13 rebounds.

Jessup led in the first half of play, but their largest lead was only three points. For the majority of the action, it was the Oaks leading, taking a one-point lead after the first quarter and a five-point advantage into the locker room.

A jumper from Glynn got Jessup within four with 5:50 to go in regulation, but they could never cut within two possessions. Trailing again by four inside the final minute, Jessup had to start sending the Oaks to the line, signaling the end to any form of comeback.

Turnovers were a key area in this one, as Menlo outscored the Warriors 18-2 in points off turnovers. Jessup turned the ball over 18 times as opposed to ten from the Oaks.

The Warriors now shift their focus to the two Arizona schools of the GSAC as next week Jessup returns home for the final time this season. Starting with Arizona Christian on Thursday, the homestand then wraps up with OUAZ on Saturday for Senior Day.

Thursday's action is scheduled for 5:30 p.m.
