LINCOLN, Calif. – A two-week hiatus due to rain came to an end on Thursday as the Warriors hosted the Menlo Oaks at McBean Park. On a day where the ball was flying, Jessup needed just a little more wind to blow out towards left field as a two-out blast was robbed at the wall.
Jessup, who fall to 4-5-1 in the GSAC, are now .500 this season against the Oaks after Jessup took a non-conference game earlier this season in Atherton.
Trailing 10-6 entering the ninth inning, the rally began on a first-pitch home run from
Jaisten Cabatbat. Things began to escalate as a pair of walks brought up the tying run in the form of
Kayde Iranon. Looking to be the hero, Iranon put a charge into one, sending the ball deep to left. Menlo's left fielder raced to the track, leaped, and miraculously made the catch to end the game.
It would have been the Warriors' fourth home run of the game, as on top of Cabatbat's blast, Chris Cook and
Kevin Gutierrez also left the ballpark.
Chris Lopez had a big game in the batter's box as the former Oak took on his former team for the second time. Lopez went 2-for-4 at the dish with a pair of doubles. He also drove in three of the Warriors' seven runs.
Another big moment came in the bottom of the seventh as
Brandon Springer's looping line drive found the gap, allowing Springer to reach on his fifth double of the season. The base knock extends Springer's hit streak to 15 games, dating back to February 10.
After Jessup took a 2-0 lead in the first, Menlo bounced back to plate three in the third. The Oaks responded with three more in the fourth, countering another two spot from the Warriors in the third. Menlo added runs in the fifth, seventh, and eighth to put them in double-digits for just the second time this season, both coming against the Warriors.
Trevor Arnston takes the loss, falling to 2-2, after allowing six runs (five earned) on five hits.
Caleb Markwith followed with three innings in relief.
Preston Brook tossed the final two innings.
The series will continue tomorrow as the Warriors and Oaks hit the field for a doubleheader. Game one is scheduled to begin at 11 a.m.
