Softball Swept by No. 9 Southern Oregon on Friday

Pineda finished the day 4-for-5 at the plate; Winn’s two-out triple sent the tying run to the plate in the seventh

LINCOLN, Calif. – A break in the conference schedule Friday saw the Warriors take on one of their toughest tests of the season, the No. 9 ranked Southern Oregon Raiders. After a hot start by the Warriors, the Raiders found their rhythm, and SOU swept the day.

The two losses drop the Warriors to 13-8 on the season. Through 21 games a season ago, the Warriors were 12-9. Jessup went on to win a record 39 games in 2022.

Jessup got on the board first Friday thanks to an RBI single from Aaliyah Pineda, plating Sam Lorge. Pineda was unstoppable at the dish, finishing 4-for-4 in the opener with four singles.

Southern Oregon responded with a run in the third, but the Warriors quickly countered on Sarah Giles' RBI single to plate Lexi Watson. But back came the Raiders as a five-spot in the fifth put them ahead 6-2.

A two-run triple from Kaylee Winn brought the tying run to the plate, but the big hit came with two away in the seventh. Winn would be stranded on third as SOU took the opener 6-4.

Taking her first collegiate loss was Bella MacFarlane. Entering Friday with a 0.00 ERA, MacFarlane allowed six runs (five earned) on eight hits over five innings of work. Terra Goetz tossed two scoreless innings in relief.

Game two ended up being all about the Raiders, as SOU ended the contest early with an 8-0 victory in just six innings. SOU scored a run in the first and the second, followed by two in the fifth. The big strike came in the sixth when they tacked on four more.

Pineda added another hit in game two, ending her day 5-for-6 in the box.

Jessup split pitching between Katie Blankenheim and Serena Navarrete. Blankenheim allowed two runs (one earned) on five hits. Navarrete allowed six runs (five earned) on seven hits. Blankenheim falls to 4-5 with the loss.

The Warriors will be back on the diamond tomorrow when they take on San Diego Christian. The Hawks will make their annual visit to Lincoln after visiting Menlo on Friday. First pitch is scheduled for noon.
