Warriors Fire Off a Record 36 Shots in 6-0 Victory

Nunez and Cruz both score a brace; Jessup returns to action on Friday in a non-conference match with Menlo

ROCKLIN, Calif. - The Warriors started the week off strong with a Wednesday evening shutout on their home turf, as Jessup dominated Cal Maritime, winning 6-0. The six goals came from four different Warriors, two scoring multiple a brace in the victory.

The now 4-3-1 Warriors put up big numbers before a big midweek crowd, as a new season high in attendance was set on Wednesday afternoon.

Head coach Greg Lazaga spoke highly of his team and the impressive performance. "Fun day for our guys, and they were rewarded for working hard. Hard work and tactical awareness with execution usually pays off, and it did today."

Diego Nunez started the scoring spree with two big goals in the first half in the 8th and 21st minute of the match. This now makes it five goals on the season for the junior forward.

The scoring didn't stop there as some late-game excitement sparked the field. Albert Barillas and Paolo Ionescu tackled on the third and fourth goal of the game to put the Warriors ahead 4-0.

Defender Luis Cruz found himself in the mix, scoring two goals in the match just 2 minutes apart. Cruz tallied two goals, his first goals on the season, and an assist on the victorious day out at Warrior Field.

Jessup totaled 36 shots in the match, compared to five from the Keelhaulers. The 36-shot performance sets a new program record, set in 2019 against Pacific Union.

Lazaga later added, "We talk a lot about maturity on the field and being tactically aware. Today, they showed maturity and were rewarded with goal-scoring opportunities and put away a few. We will continue to grow and look forward to what this group has the potential to be."

The Warriors have a quick turnaround as they will return on home turf for a non-conference matchup with Menlo College on Friday at 11:30 AM at Warrior Field.
