ROCKLIN, Calif. - Tensions ran high on Warrior Field as Jessup hosted the visiting Spirit of OUAZ. The Warriors took home a weekend victory as they defeated the Arizona GSAC opponent 2-1.
The Warriors now move to 7-3-2 overall and stay undefeated in GSAC, going 2-0. Jessup continues their win streak to three games.
After the game, head coach
Greg Lazaga added, "Kind of a physical battle today. We played well early and had chances at goal that we need to get better results on. However, we were able to capitalize on 2."
Jessup would be the team to strike first as
Diego Nunez found the back of the net to put the Warriors on top. After another 45 minutes of play, Jessup cushioned their lead to push the Warriors ahead 2-0. With a strong offensive push,
Isaac Morfin scored off of the deflection of his initial shot to find the back of the net for his fourth goal of the year.
OUAZ would find themselves on the board as a handball was called in Warrior territory. The lone goal for the Spirit would come from Jamaine Turner per penalty kick. The goalkeeping of
Gerardo Perez Plata tallied eight saves to keep the Spirit to one goal and allowed the Warriors to take victory with a final score of 2-1.
The scoring wasn't the only action to keep your attention, as 48 fouls and eight yellow cards were distributed between opponents.
Greg Lazaga continued, "As we continue to play, finishing those opportunities will become important for us to continue to mature. We answered the call of the game's physicality, but it turned into poor soccer. I'd love to see us control our focus and continue to play our style of play. It's a great start to conference for us, but there is a long way to go, and we look forward to our next match."
The Warriors look to continue their hot streak when they hit the road to face off against The Master's University on October 5th at Reese Field.
