HILO, Hawaii – Three matches on the Hawaiian Islands have come and gone, as Jessup made the jump to the Big Island on Saturday after opening the week on Oahu. Taking on the Vulcans of Hawaii Hilo, the Warriors found some of the offense they had been searching for, but they headed home with a 3-2 loss.
Jessup leaves the Aloha State having gone 1-1-1 during their time.
"That was a tough place to play on the final game of our trip," said head coach
Greg Lazaga. "Hilo is a good side. We struggled for a 20-minute stretch in the first, and it cost us. It's good to see us continue to battle and make it a game for the final stretch. A game to learn from as we travel home."
Hilo found the back of the net first, coming in the 25th minute as Gabriel Gallardo's goal snapped Jessup's shutout streak. They added a second goal five minutes later off the foot of Brian Trujillo.
Mixed between the two goals was an equalizer from Jessup's
Isaac Morfin. Morfin stayed onside as
Diego Nunez's pass sent Morfin into the box. The right-footed attempt snuck into the far post for his first goal of the season.
Eduardo Guillen added Jessup's second goal of the day when he snatched the ball from the Hilo goalkeeper, but it came with Jessup trailing 3-1 in the 76th minute as Hilo's third goal was credited as a Jessup own goal 31 minutes into the match.
Goalkeeper
Maxx Willard totaled seven saves in the defeat. He leaves Hawaii having conceded three goals on 30-shot attempts.
Jessup is now headed back east over the Pacific as California awaits them. The Warriors will welcome former GSAC rivals, now current PacWest foe Westmont, on October 19.
