FRESNO, Calif. - Jessup hit the road for a midweek matchup against the Sunbirds of Fresno Pacific University. Despite the first-half goal to give the Warriors the lead, the Sunbirds would score two in the second half to take the game, 2-1.
Jesus is now 2-3-1 in conference and 2-6-4 overall.
"This was a tough one to lose.," said head coach Greg Lazaga. "I thought we played good enough to win for long stretches of the game. Good opportunities came at net and it just didn't go in."
The Warriors have only faced Fresno Pacific one time previously in a 1-0 loss in the 2023 season. Jessup is still looking for their first defeat against FPU.
Isaac Morfin found the back of the net for Jessup in the first half of the game. Morfin would score on an assist from Tariq Alabi in the 25th minute of the game to give the Warriors the lead going into halftime.
The Warriors would continue a strong offensive push, tallying a total of seven shots on goal, but unfortunately, they found themselves with the lone goal by Morfin. Jessup had a chance to add a second goal, with that coming when they were awarded a penalty, but for the fourth time this season the attempt was missed.
"Another pk missed," added Lazaga. "We are going to turn that around on the next one for sure."
The Sunbirds responded in the second half of the game, scoring two goals to eventually take the lead and the win.
Jessup only has four games remaining in the inaugural NCAA season before the NCCAA National Championships, should the Warriors qualify. Those will be played in late November.
Next up for Jessup is another road game against Dominican University of California on October 26th at 12:30 PM at Kennelly Field.
