ROCKLIN, Calif. – The Warriors won their third game of the season and their second consecutive at home, as they downed Academy of Art 2-1 on Wednesday. Thanks to a pair of goals set up by
Diego Nunez and
Jalen Scott, the final homestand of the year got off to a red-hot start.
"I guess it was a day for Diego and Jalen to combine in front of goal today," said head coach
Greg Lazaga. "Those two had a lot of break-out plays and were able to finish a couple. We are looking to keep momentum as we head into our home stretch."
Jessup struck first in the first half the freshman Scott found Nunez who slotted it home for his second goal of the season. Jessup continued to put shots on goal in the second half, but it was the Urban Knights who battled back to level the score in the 68th minute with an Adrian Lechuga finish.
The game-winning goal came in the 81st minute as Nunez found Scott for his fourth goal of the season and the Warriors were able to hold on defensively in the final minutes.
Jessup totaled 13 shots in the contest with seven on target, while Academy of Art had nine shots with five on frame. Urban Knights freshman Florian Grollman totaled five saves compared to Warriors sophomore Max Willard, who finished with four.
Both teams ended the game with eight fouls, and there were only two cautions, both on Academy of Art. Lechuga received a yellow card in the 81st minute, and an Urban Knights assistant coach was given a red card a minute later.
Jessup progresses to 3-8-4 on the season and will host Concordia University on Saturday for senior day. Kickoff is scheduled for 11 a.m. Saturday will be Jessup's annual Senior Day festivities. The Senior Day ceremony will begin at 10:40 a.m.
