Vanguard Hands Jessup its First PacWest Loss

The Warriors drop their second straight following a five-game win streak; Jessup returns to action on January 2

COSTA MESA, Calif. – For the final time in 2024, Jessup took the court as they paid a visit to Vanguard University. Entering undefeated in conference action, Vanguard handed the Warriors their first PacWest loss, as the Lions took the bout by the final of 80-73.
 
The Warriors now head into their Christmas break with a 6-4 overall record. Jessup sits at 3-1 in conference play.
 
Guard Ja'Maris Blackmon led the scoring on Saturday as one of five Warriors to finish in double-figures. Blackmon dropped 18 points on 7-of-15 from the floor, adding four boards to his stat line.
 
Cayden McDaniel was second in scoring as he contributed 14 points in his 17 minutes off the bench. Aydan Janssan picked up a double-double of 11 points and 14 rebounds, and Anthony Enoh followed up the best game of his collegiate career with another double-double of 10 points and 10 rebounds. Troy Crighton also finished the day scoring ten points.
 
Leonard Turner led the Lions with 20 points.
 
Jessup shot 45 percent from the floor in Saturday's loss, with their best-shooting half being the second, where they knocked down 15-of-31 from the field. The Warriors sank seven 3-pointers and added a 12-of-21 showing from the charity stripe.
 
Vanguard posted a 47 percent shooting performance while finishing one better at the line with 13 makes in 17 attempts.
 
Saturday marked the 23rd all-time meeting between the Warriors and Lions and the first between the two sides as members of the PacWest. The two programs previously met 19 times as members of the GSAC. Jessup leads the all-time series 14-9, including 11 victories in the last 13 meetings.
 
The Warriors will be back in action on January 2 when they return to Southern California for two conference games. Jessup will begin the trip in Azusa against Azusa Pacific and then wrap up the visit with an afternoon game at Biola.
 
Jessup will be back inside Warrior Arena on January 8 against Academy of Art.
