Overtime Sees Jessup Fall 86-79 in Azusa

Janssan’s double-double led the Warriors; Jessup heads to Biola on Saturday afternoon

AZUSA, Calif. – Jessup rang in the New Year in Southern California, as the 2025 season began with a trip to Azusa Pacific University. With 40 minutes not being enough to decide a winner, Jessup could not hang on in the extra period as the Cougars took the 2025 opener, 86-79.

The loss moves the Warriors to 3-2 in conference action, with the two losses coming consecutively after a 3-0 start.

Thursday's contest hit halftime with APU leading by three, but the early advantage was as large as 12, coming with ten minutes remaining in the half. The Warriors trailed by ten with four minutes showing on the clock but battled back to even the score at 37 before an APU three at the closing horn sent the teams into the locker room.

Jessup stayed within one possession early in the second half before taking the lead on a Cayden McDaniel three with 12:40 to play. The contest remained close, ending with an Aydan Janssan layup with 40 seconds remaining to push the contest to overtime.

Overtime ultimately would be all APU, with the Cougars outscoring the Warriors 17-10.

Jessup connected on 45 percent from the field, with their best shooting performance being in the first half with a 47 percent showing. APU shot 37 percent but added a perfect 13-for-13 performance at the line.

The Warriors finished 15-of-25 in their free throw attempts.

The Jessup offense was led by 17 points from Janssan, who added ten boards in his first contest since earning PacWest Defender of the Week honors. Janssan posted these numbers in 35 minutes of action.

Jessup also saw double-figure scoring from Anthony Enoh (16 points) and McDaniel (15 points). Enoh added seven rebounds, while Curro Segura also contributed eight.

Azusa Pacific was led by Charlie Gehler with 19 points in his 32 minutes off the bench. Jordan Hansen added 17 points in 40 minutes of action.

Jessup's road trip will continue on Saturday when they pay a visit to La Mirada and Biola University. Tip-off is scheduled for 2 p.m. The Warriors will be back home on January 8 to take on Academy of Art.
