RENO, Nev. – The first meet of the season has come to a close, as Jessup competed for the second day at Nevada's Silver State Invitational. With two records highlighting the day, the Warriors head into Christmas break already with a strong showing under their belt.
"Overall, it was a good two-day meet for us," said head coach
Jeff Magley. "It was great to be on an indoor track. It was a great experience for the girls, and hopefully, that'll give them a lot of motivation heading into Christmas break to get ready for January."
The day saw the Warriors break two program records. In the shot put, sophomore
Julia Pisenti hit a top mark of 13.21m to break the indoor record she set last season. Pisenti placed fifth in that event.
Erica Waseq also set a record, matching the time of 8.03 in the 60m. That time matched the record she already held.
"Anytime you start your season with school records, that's always a good sign," added Magley.
Several other marks cracked into the top ten for Jessup Indoor Track & Field's record books.
Jocelyn Pedretti followed up a strong Friday with a time of 10.17 in the 60m hurdle, moving her into the top ten. Aurora Osburn concluded her first meet with a mark of 10.47m in the triple jump, placing her in the top five.
Saturday also saw the Jessup 4x400m relay team move into the top ten with a time of 4:26:52. The relay team included Waseq, Osburn, Pedretti, and
Paloma Baumert.
"I think it was a great conclusion to our first meet for program and our first ever meet before Christmas during the indoor season," concluded Magley. "I think it gave us a good preview of where our fall training is and what we need to work on going into Christmas break and coming out back in January when we returned the competition for the women."
Jessup will not compete again in 2024, as the season takes a break before resuming in January. When the Warriors do return, they will do so with four more indoor meets in Reno, starting with the Silver and Blue Invitational on January 10.
