COLUMBIA, S.C. – Champions have been crowned on day two of the NCCAA Outdoor Track & Field National Championship as two pieces of hardware will make their way back to Rocklin. As the meet reached its midway point, two Warriors were crowned national champions on day two in South Carolina.
Â
Jessup athletes
Jocelyn Pedretti and
Julia Pisenti stood at the top of their respective podiums on Thursday as the third and fourth-national champions in program history. They join Bailey Cossentine, who won two NAIA National Championships in 2019 and 2021.
Â
Pedretti earns her crown in the heptathlon as she held on to her day one lead through the final four events. Pedretti scored 4,285 points, which ranks as the 19th best score in the history of the meet.
Â
Joining Pedretti was Pisenti, who capped off a dominating season in the discus with a national championship finish. Pisenti's throw of 47.72m was over 5.5 meters further than the runner-up, as Pisenti's mark also finished as the fourth best in the history of the event. Pedretti almost joined Pisenti on the podium, but her throw of 40.49m missed out by 0.08m for a third-place finish.
Â
Thrower
Derek Brown found his spot on the podium as he placed third in the discus to earn All-American honors. Brown's best throw was 44.20m, setting a new program record in the event. Four of his six throws eclipsed his lifetime PR.
Â
Thursday was also a day for prelims, as several Warriors punched their ticket to the finals on Friday.
Â
Gianni Miles advances to the finals in the 100m and 200m, setting up for a chance at two championships on Friday.
Erica Waseq won her heat in the 100m hurdles, placing her in Friday's finals.
Karsyn Leikauf set a PR in the same event.
Paloma Baumert will also be competing for a championship on Friday as she advances in the 100m.
Â
