COLUMBUS, Georgia - Big hits late in the game sparked the Warriors to a pair of victories as they continued their weekend at the South Commons Softball Complex in Columbus, Georgia. The competitive schedule consisted of two games on the day against #12 University of Mobile and Louisiana Christian.
The two wins move the Warriors to 9-2 overall, with one game to go tomorrow.
Coach Brie spoke on the double win day, "One thing we ask our players to do is make our jobs as coaches hard. In that, I know that I can call on all 20 to get the job done at any time from this team, and I cannot explain how blessed we feel as coaches for this opportunity to coach such a talented team."
Game one was a nail-biter to the end as Jessup found themselves behind early in the game and through the seventh.
Terra Goetz started the game throwing 3.2 innings, with
Katie Blankenheim in relief throwing 3.1.
Jessup never had the lead in the game and found themselves down 5-0 going into the fifth inning. A stretched triple by
Madisyn Leffle and a single from
Maddy Ybarra would get two runs to cross the plate. Jessup was still behind 5-2.
The script flipped at the bottom of the seventh inning, though, as Samantha Lorge hit a two-run home run to bring the Warriors within one.
Kaylee Winn would write the ending with a back to back walk-off monstrous shot to center to end the game in walk-off fashion with a final score of 6-5.
The momentum carried into game two with
Serena Navarrete in the circle to set the tone early, and
Bella MacFarlane to close the game for the Warriors.
Louisiana Christian would hop on top first with a solo home run, but Jessup answered right back.
Sarah Giles' hot bat continued with a solo shot to tie the game, her seventh on the season.
The Wildcats would again take the lead, but Jessup answered in the same inning. The bottom of the sixth inning set the tone as the Warrior solidified three runs to secure the win.
Hannah Dominguez doubled to center field, scoring two, and
Madisyn Leffle drove in Dominguez to finalize the score 6-3.
"Four arms got it done together, 14 bats came alive, and 20 players displayed a never-quit mentality on and off the field to grab two come-from-behind wins. This group is special, and God has placed them here for a reason, and we give Him the glory for the opportunity to play this game with the talent He has given," continued Campbell as the Warriors continued their weekend.
Jessup will take on #3 University of the Cumberlands tomorrow at 6:00 AM Pacific time to end their weekend on the East Coast.
