LINCOLN, Calif. - Jessup cleated up under the Friday night lights to take Arizona Christian in game one of a three-game conference series. Jessup defeated ACU in game one with a final score of 9-7, moving Jessup to 21-4 on the season.
The Warriors traveled to Phoenix, Arizona, in February to begin GSAC conference play. The Firestorm gave Jessup two of their only four losses on the season before tallying a win before coming home. This Warrior win now equalizes them at 2-2 against each other this 2024 season.
Arizona Christian would score two runs in the top of the second, but the lead would only last so long. The Warriors answered right back with a two-home run inning with big jacks from
James Williams III and
Trey Furrey. Furrey leads the Warriors in home runs with 11, edging past
Connor Culp who has 10.
ACU would see five cross home plate in the third inning and command the lead 7-6 at the end of the inning.
Kayde Iranon hit an RBI groundout to score
Connor Culp to tie the game in the bottom of the seventh.
Quinton Hall would call the game with a double to right center to score
Cody Antone and take the lead. Wild pitches by the ACU pitcher allowed another Jessup runner to score to cushion the lead and secure the win, 9-7.
The pitching sequence of
Haliama Swartman (5.0 IP),
Evan Williams (3.0 IP), and
Nolan Thebiay (1.0 IP) commanded the bump for the Warriors. Williams sees his second win of the year, and Thebiay with his fourth save.
Jessup will look to secure a series win in tomorrow's finale on home turf. The doubleheader will be played under McBean lights and will begin with the first pitch at 4:00 PM.
