LINCOLN, Calif. – The Warriors brought out the brooms on Saturday as they wrapped up their series against Arizona Christian with a three-game sweep. Led by a great day from
Bryce Petrilla, Jessup continues to dominate at McBean Park as they move to 22-2 when playing at home.
Petrilla stole the show in both games, starting with a 3-for-4 outing in game one. Petrilla hit home runs in each of his first three at-bats, making him the third player in program history to leave the yard three times in a game. He joins
Rhys De Highden (2023) and
Connor Culp (2024) as the only players to do so.
His first home run of the day came in the bottom of the first, and it was one of three Jessup blasts. Culp homered first, a two-run shot, and then two batters later,
James Williams III left the yard on a solo shot. Petrilla followed up Williams, making it back-to-back blasts.
His next two homers would come in the third and fifth.
Jessup took the lead in the last of the third on Petrilla's two-run shot and never looked back, as the lead grew to four runs in the sixth following Petrilla's third homer and an RBI single from
Quinton Hall. Jessup added to it in the eighth as
Drew Andrews gave Jessup some insurance with a solo shot, followed by an RBI single from
Chris Lopez.
The Warriors also got a strong outing out of their starter, as right-hander
Anthony Perez improved to 4-3 on the year after lasting seven innings.
Preston Brook,
Joey Miller, and
Nolan Thebiay combined to throw the final two innings in relief.
Game two saw a pitcher's dual break out after the 11-7 game one, as the Warriors sent
Max Moreno to the mound. Moreno came into the game following a shutout of OUAZ last weekend, which was Jessup's first shutout since Moreno blanked ACU in 2020.
Moreno lasted 4.2 innings, allowing three runs (two earned) on seven hits before head coach
Trevor Paine turned to
Jason Riviello for the final out.
The Warrior struck first in game one off the bat of none other than Petrilla, but entering the bottom of the sixth, they found themselves down 3-1. That's when Jessup looked to Petrilla once more, and he answered as he doubled to right-center, scoring a pair to tie the game.
A wild pitch then sent the winning run across home plate.
Earning the win was
Kevin Gutierrez as he tossed two scoreless innings in relief, striking out three in the process.
The three-game sweep improves Jessup's record to 23-4 on the year, and it also secured Paine his 150th win as the Warriors' head coach. The milestone came just hours after former Jessup skipper Jake McKinley, now the head coach of the Nevada Wolfpack, won his 200th career game.
Jessup now leaves the friendly walls of McBean Park, as next up is a trip down south to take on The Master's. The three-game set starts at noon on Friday, March 22.
