SANTA CLARITA, Calif. – The Warriors batted first on Friday for just the fourth time this season, as Jessup was back on the road to start a three-game set with The Master's. A late comeback put the Warriors six outs away from victory, but TMU struck for two late runs to take the opener 7-6.
Jessup falls to 23-5 with the loss, and their record away from McBean Park moves to 1-3.
The Master's took a four-run lead into the eighth inning, as the Warriors had managed just one run on a third-inning single from
Trey Furrey. But all hope was not lost, as Jessup battled back and took the lead on two big hits.
James Williams III began the comeback with a two-run double to plate
Cody Antone and
Connor Culp. Then came
Chris Lopez, who hit a moonshot to right field, sending the Warriors' dugout into a frenzy as they had taken a 6-5 lead and were now six outs away from victory.
Furrey ended the game with a 3-for-5 showing at the plate. Lopez went 2-for-4.
Reliever
Evan Williams tossed three frames out of the bullpen, but his final inning of work was the last of the eighth as the Mustangs tagged him for two to retake the lead.
Nolan Thebiay then came in to record the final out of the inning.
Jessup went down in order in the top of the ninth.
Right-hander
Haliama Swartman got the starting nod from head coach
Trevor Paine. Swartman takes a no-decision after allowing five runs on seven hits with a pair of walks.
The Warriors and Mustangs will return to the diamond tomorrow for two more in Santa Clarita. The series will resume at 11 a.m. and will wrap up with a seven-inning sprint approximately 30 minutes after the conclusion of the first game.
Saturday's action will be streamed
