REDDING, Calif. – The Jessup golf team was in action for the first time in over a month this week as they took to Riverview Country Club in Redding for the Simpson Invitational. The two-day tournament ended with one of the Warriors at the top of the leaderboard, as players continued their preparations for the upcoming GSAC Championship.
Sophomore
Jessica Burdick, who claimed victory twice in her freshman season, has added a third title as she finished first in the field this week. Burdick posted back-to-back rounds of 73, putting her two over for the tournament.
Burdick's score gives her a four-stroke victory over Lana Rummel of Victoria BC.
Others in the field from the Jessup women included
Corina Shaw (5th place),
Julianne Canda (16th place),
Macy Anderson (25th place), and
Ayasha Phillips (28th place).
The Jessup men saw the best scores come from
Braden Armstrong, as he finished in tenth after rounds of 73 and 72. However, the low round of the week came from
Matthew Shimizu, who shot 71 (-1) in the opening round. Shimizu took 16th after a final round of 75.
Arturo Zavala (35th place),
Trevor Halloran (39th place), and
Daniel Johnson (52nd place) rounded out the field for the Jessup men.
The Warriors will return to action on April 1 as they host schools for a one-day tournament at Darkhourse Golf Club in Auburn. That will be the Warriors' final competition before the 2024 GSAC Championship.
The GSAC Championship will begin on April 15 from Briarwood Country Club in Sun City West, Ariz.
