Men’s Soccer Leaves Colorado After 2-0 Loss

The Warriors went 0-1-1 during their first DII road trip; Jessup will visit San Francisco State on Thursday

PUEBLO, Colo. – The Warriors were back in action Saturday morning as their two-match trip in Colorado concluded with a meeting with Western Oregon. With the two sides squaring off for the first time in program history, goals in both halves paved the way for WOU to take a 2-0 victory.

Jessup now returns to California 0-1-1 as a Division II, having earned that draw in a 1-1 final against Northwest Nazarene on Thursday.

"We looked sluggish and uncertain early defensively, and it bled into our motion on offense," said head coach Greg Lazaga. "We will take the flight home and grow from the moment."

The Warriors totaled four shots across 90 minutes on Saturday, two of which went on frame. Forwards Iven Flores and Jalen Scott had the two looks on goal, but both were denied by WOU goalkeeper Andre Schlaefli in the shutout performance.

Opposing Schlaefli was Maxx Willard, who allowed two goals in 82 minutes of action. Willard was relieved by Antonio Camacho, who made his season debut in the final eight minutes of regulation. Willard made two saves.

WOU's first tally of the match came ten minutes in when the referee awarded the Wolves a penalty. Michael Divano stepped up and connected to put his side ahead 1-0. Abraham Villalobos added to the scoring in the 68th minute when he scored off an assist from Aidan Azavedo.

The Warriors were issued three cautions in the match, those going to Willard, Dylan Her, and James Murrillo. Each was their first of the season.

After two matches in the Rocky Mountains, the Warriors are now on their way back to California, as the season resumes on Thursday with a trip to San Francisco. Jessup will square off at noon with San Francisco State to wrap up a three-match road trip to start the season.

Jessup will make their home debut on September 17 when UC Merced comes to Rocklin. Tickets are on sale HERE.
