ATHERTON, Calif. – The second match of Jessup's inaugural season saw the Warriors make their way to Atherton on Saturday night. In the first meeting between the Warriors and Oaks in men's volleyball, Jessup came out on the losing end of a 3-0 sweep.
Jessup, who made their debut on Monday at Pacific Union, are now .500 to start the season. The inaugural season will see a trip to Simpson next.
After a 14-kill performance in the season opener, junior
Jan Lopuch totaled nine kills for the Warriors on Saturday night. Lopuch added a pair of digs and a block to his stat line as well. Matching Lopuch with nine kills was freshman
Owen Henning, who improved from a seven-kill night at PUC.
Henning also added a pair of aces and digs to his performance.
Setter
Taylor Marks produced 30 assists on Saturday night, adding three kills and a block as well.
Logan Marks finished with five kills and five digs.
The Warriors scored the first point in each set Saturday night, with the final two sets seeing a narrow scoreline throughout. Menlo won the first set-handedly, 25-13, but the Warriors would not back down, as the second set saw a battle extend past 25.
Menlo got to set point in the second point with a 24-23 lead, but Jessup extended the set, thanks to a Menlo service error. The set continued, seeing both teams hit 26 before Menlo took a 27-26 lead. The set would eventually be claimed, 28-26, after a ball hit by Lopuch was called to have not been touched by the Oaks at the net.
The third set again saw a close battle, but Menlo pulled away late, ending the match with a 25-21 victory.
The Oaks saw Mustafa Selçuk Uyar lead the match with 16 kills, hitting .452. Both teams ended the bout with 36 kills a side.
Menlo is now 3-3 on the season.
Jessup's next match will be a visit to Simpson, coming on Friday, January 31. The Warriors are scheduled to make their home debut on February 6 when UC Merced comes to Rocklin. The next day will see a rematch between the Warriors and Oaks, this time inside Warrior Arena.
