ROCKLIN, CA – The Jessup Women's Volleyball team returned home to Horton Court in front of a packed home crowd for a matchup with the Warriors of Westmont. In the battle of the Warriors, Jessup secured a gritty four-set victory (3-1) on Saturday night in a high-octane showdown.
The final scores of the contest were 19-25, 27-25, 25-22, and 30-28. The victory pushes Jessup's overall record to 6-7 on the season.
After dropping the opening set, the Warriors showed incredible resilience, dominating the middle sets and prevailing in an unforgettable extra-points battle to clinch the match.
Head Coach
Kyle Steele had positive comments about his team and the packed home crowd, "Proud of the gritty way we can win close sets. The home crowd was unbelievable and definitely helped get us over the hump for another PacWest win tonight!"
Jessup came out firing in the initial set but struggled to maintain momentum against the Westmont attack, falling 25-19. However, the Warriors immediately responded, igniting a dramatic second set that set the tone for the rest of the night.
The turning point came in the clutch second set, where the teams traded blows late into the frame. Led by strong play from junior setter
Kenzie Carpenter, who distributed the ball expertly, Jessup narrowly escaped a two-set deficit by capturing the 27-25 win.
The third set would also go in favor of Jessup in a 25-23 victory to keep the momentum going into set number four, in hopes of Jessup closing out the game.
With both teams refusing to yield, the score was tied 13 times, including multiple rallies past the 25-point mark in the fourth set. A final, spectacular rally saw Jessup capitalizing and sealing the nail-biting 30-28 win and the overall match victory.
Freshman outside hitter
Addisen Hamilton played hero, coming up with back-to-back clutch swings late in the set to push the Warriors to a victorious reign. Hamilton posted a respectable 21 kills on the night, leading the charge on the offensive end for the Warriors.
The Warriors look to carry this momentum forward as they return to conference play next week. Jessup is scheduled to travel to Dominican University of California on Wednesday, October 8, before returning home to face Fresno Pacific University on Saturday, October 11, at Warrior Arena.
