IRVINE, Calif. - The Jessup Men's Soccer team competed in their final of three Southern California road games against Concordia University on Tuesday, October 7th. Despite a determined effort from the Warriors' defense, two second-half goals ultimately proved the difference, leading to a 0-2 loss at Golden Eagles Field.
The opening 45 minutes saw a tightly contested defensive battle, with both teams fighting for midfield control. While Concordia put pressure on the Jessup backline, Warrior goalkeeper Alonso Ruiz and his defense held firm, ensuring the score remained level going into the half. The Warriors created four shot opportunities in the first half of play, testing the Golden Eagles' keeper.
The deadlock was finally broken late in the second half when Concordia's Dylan Angel Reyes found the back of the net at the 74th (74:56) minute to give the home side a 0-1 advantage. In the final minutes, as the Warriors pushed forward for the tying score, Concordia capitalized on a counterattack. Concordia's Ryan Smith scored in the 87th minute (87:12) off assists from Miguel Arroyo and Andrew Jun, cementing the 0-2 scoreline. Warriors Head Coach Greg Lazaga said after the game, "The boys competed hard tonight. Defense held for long stretches and I am proud of them for that. We will continue to work and grow. There is talent on this team. We will continue to nurture it."
The team's next appearance will be at Fresno Pacific University on Wednesday, October 15th for a non-conference meeting. Kick-off will be at 6:00 PM.Â
