ROCKLIN, Calif. - The Jessup Men's Soccer team played their final home game of the 2025 campaign at Warrior Field today, suffering a 3-1 defeat against Chaminade University following a heartfelt Senior Day celebration.
The day began with a special tribute to the nine graduating seniors who have dedicated themselves to the program: Alonso Ruiz, Chase Beals, Shea Gomberg, Sergio Medina, Albert Barillas, Luis Cruz, Angelo Chavez, Zay Hernandez, and Jose Eligio Gutierrez. Each senior was celebrated in a ceremony before the match, where their families joined them on the pitch to share memories and present them with gifts, honoring their contributions both on and off the field.
Once the whistle blew, the Warriors came out aggressive, outshooting the visiting Silverswords 9-6 overall throughout the match. However, Chaminade proved clinical in front of the net, breaking through the Jessup defense three times.
The Silverswords opened the scoring in the first half with a goal from Owen Caba early in the match at the 15th minute mark. Halfway through the second half, the Warriors tied the meeting with a goal from Mateo Barth. However, a minute later, Chaminade regained the lead with a score from Caleb Yap-Texeira. As the final seconds waned, Gio Aceves bypassed the Warriors keeper to end the afternoon with a 3-1 score.Â
Seniors Alonso Ruiz and Luis Cruz, alongside others, created several threatening chances, but the Warriors could not find the back of the net. The match marks the conclusion of the home schedule for the Men's Soccer program. Head Coach Greg Lazaga spoke about the senior day recognition, "We will miss these seniors greatly. Many of them have grown tremendously on and off the field over the past four years. Proud of them and was glad to see their families out today."
The Warriors will look to bounce back and finish strong when they travel to San Diego, CA, to take on Point Loma Nazarene University on Thursday, November 6th.
