Monmouth, Ore. – The future of Jessup Cross Country shined bright on Saturday as the Warriors competed against a tough field at the prestigious NCAA West Regional Championships in Monmouth, Oregon.
While the competition was steep, freshman standout Angela Gladysh delivered a truly historic performance that reset the standard for the program and signals an exciting new era for Jessup.
Competing on a challenging 6-kilometer course, Gladysh ran an absolutely phenomenal race, leaving her previous best marks far behind. She crossed the finish line in an incredible time of 21:36.93, securing a massive 43-second personal record (PR) for the young Warrior.
Most notably, her stellar time shatters the Jessup University school record in the 6K event, cementing her place in the program's history books after only her freshman season.
Gladysh finished an outstanding 48th overall in the highly competitive regional field, a remarkable feat that showcases her ability to race against top NCAA Division II talent. Even more impressively, she proved her star potential by finishing as the 10th fastest Freshman in the entire race. Her landmark performance is a powerful testament to the hard work, dedication, and determination that has defined the Warrior spirit this season.
Additionally, the Warriors also had three runners compete at the West Regional Championships. Juliet Davis finished with a time of 24:08.01 in the women's 6K. For the men's, Travis Brown finished with a time of 35:21.29 and Zachary Heberlein finished the 10K with a 35:44:75 time.
Head Coach Garrett Seawell shared encouraging words about his freshman runner, "Amazing day for Angela and Jessup at our first NCAA Regional meet. She ran a smart race by being patient and moving up during the second half of the race. Anytime you can set a 42 second PR it's a good day." He continued, "Everyone competed really well and most were rewarded with personal records to end the season." Gladysh's record-breaking run at the NCAA West Regional Championships provides an exhilarating conclusion to the season. Warriors athletics looks forward to an incredibly bright future for the Jessup University Cross Country program.
