ROCKLIN, Calif. – Jessup sophomore
Angela Gladysh has been named PacWest Women's Cross Country Runner of the Week, sharing the honor with Biola's Claire Lesiw.
Gladysh won the women's open 6k at the Santa Clara University Bronco Invitational on Saturday, Oct. 17, at Baylands Park in Sunnyvale. She finished in 22:08.1, almost nine seconds ahead of Chico State's Mattie Whipple (22:17.7) in a field of 148 finishers.
The win was her second of the season, after the Jessup Invitational on Sept. 26, and the third of her career. Her time was the second-fastest 6k of her year, behind the 21:48.9 she ran at the Kim Duyst Invitational on Sept. 12. She also improved by 23 seconds on her sixth-place finish at last year's Bronco Invitational.
The race was the last tune-up before the PacWest Championships on Sunday, Nov. 8, which Jessup will host on its home course in Rocklin. If the Warriors qualify, the postseason continues with the NCAA Division II West Regional on
Nov. 21 at Haggin Oaks Golf Course in Sacramento, followed by the national championship on Dec. 5 in Lawrence, Kan.
Coach's Corner
"Angela continues to run tactically excellent races," said head coach Jordan Kurtz. "To run alone in 2nd place for much of that race, and then close the way she did was fun to watch."
