SUNNYVALE, Calif. – Jessup sophomore
Angela Gladysh won the women's open 6k at the Santa Clara University Bronco Invitational on Saturday, Oct. 17, at Baylands Park, crossing the line in 22:08.1. She finished nearly nine seconds ahead of Chico State's Mattie Whipple (22:17.7) in a field of 148 finishers.
Gladysh's time was the second-fastest 6k of her season, behind the 21:48.9 she ran at the Kim Duyst Invitational on Sept. 12. It was her second win of the season, following the Jessup Invitational on Sept. 26, and the third victory of her career. It also improved on her sixth-place finish at last year's Bronco Invitational by 23 seconds. The Jessup wins came on the Warriors' home course and the Bronco win came against a field of 148 finishers, which makes this her biggest field of the three.
Freshman
Mel Peterson was the next Warrior across the line, placing 39th in 23:43.7. Sophomore
Juliet David finished 60th in 24:18.3. Jessup did not post a team score in the women's race.
On the men's side, freshman
Ryden Rivera led the Warriors in the open 8k, finishing 53rd out of 213 finishers in 26:51.7. Senior
Travis Brown placed 188th in 30:43.3. Jessup did not post a team score in the men's race either.
The Warriors now turn to the Pacific West Conference Championships on Sunday, Nov. 8, which Jessup will host on its home course in Rocklin. If the Warriors qualify, the postseason continues with the NCAA Division II West Regional on Saturday, Nov. 21, at Haggin Oaks Golf Course in Sacramento. The national championship is Saturday, Dec. 5, at Rim Rock Farm in Lawrence, Kan.
