ROCKLIN, Calif. – Wins both on the mainland and in Hawaii have drawn the recognition of the PacWest, as Jessup Women's Basketball was announced the conference's Team of the Week on Monday. Entering the final three games of the regular season, the Warriors have won three in a row and are within reach of a winning record.
Jessup, in year one competing as a member of the PacWest and NCAA Division II, is now a two-time selection of PacWest Team of the Week. The Warriors also won the award on November 18 after a 2-0 week against Sonoma State and Chico State.
Now at the tail end of the season, Jessup is three games away from their first Division II campaign being complete. They enter the week with an overall record of 12-13, one game shy of .500.
Jessup began last week in Hawaii, as a three-game trip in the Aloha State wrapped up with a visit to Hilo. Trailing in the closing seconds, the Warriors grabbed victory thanks to
Brianna Byrnes' jump shot as time expired.
The 53-52 victory in Hilo capped off a 2-1 trip to Hawaii, as the Warriors also picked up a win against Chaminade on February 8.
Jessup continued the week on Saturday when Hawaii Pacific came to Rocklin. HPU beat the Warriors on night one of Jessup's trip to Hawaii, but this time around, it was Jessup coming out on the winning side of a 71-55 final.
The two teams entered the locker room tied at 28 on Saturday, but the Warriors came out red-hot in the second half, outscoring HPU 43-27 in the final 20 minutes.
Jessup, who are provisional members of NCAA Division II, are ineligible for PacWest and NCAA postseason competition. The next three games on the schedule are the only guaranteed contests awaiting the Warriors in the 2024-25 season.
The final stretch begins with Concordia visiting Warrior Arena on Thursday and then continues with Hilo making their visit to Rocklin on Saturday. Fresno Pacific will then come to town on March 1 for Senior Day and the finale of the regular season.
