Streak Hits Five as Jessup Tops Hilo, 59-44

Jessup held Hilo to just 13 first-half points; The Warriors can finish no worse than .500 in their inaugural Division II campaign

ROCKLIN, Calif. – The win train keeps on rolling through Rocklin as Jessup tacked on another victory to their tally on Saturday afternoon. With their 59-44 win against the visiting Vulcans of Hawaii Hilo, the Warriors have secured, at worst, a .500 record in their inaugural Division II season.

Jessup now sits 14-13 on the year. With one game to play, Jessup has a chance to not only capture a winning record but they can also finish .500 in conference play, as they now sit 9-10 in PacWest action.

The win on Saturday is meaningful for another reason, as it puts head coach Corey Laster 64-51 in his tenure with the Warriors. Laster now sits tied with Kurt Westendorp for the most wins in program history.

Saturday's victory was easier on the heart than that of the Warriors' win two weeks ago in Hilo. That game ended with Brianna Byrnes knocking down a jumper at the buzzer. This time around, it was all Warriors from start to finish, as Jessup held the Vulcans to just 13 points in the first 20 minutes of action.

Hilo responded in the second half by outscoring the Warriors by five, but the 20-point advantage Jessup had built up in the first half was too much to overcome.

The Warriors saw three players close the game in double-figures. Tatiana Newsome led the charge with 12 points on 4-of-9 from the floor. Amari Guiton and Andrea Jovicevic both closed the game, scoring 11.

All three of those players will be walking in next week's Senior Day ceremony, as Jessup will be honoring ten seniors before the final game of the regular season.

The season will conclude with Fresno Pacific making a visit to Rocklin, as the March 1 contest is scheduled for noon. An official start time for the Senior Day ceremony has not been announced but will be this week. In their previous meeting, Jessup beat FPU, 66-61, down in Fresno.
