Big Bats Come Out in Season Opening Sweep

Andrews ties program record with three home runs in game two; Anderson’s grand slam breaks open game two

LINCOLN, Calif. – Following a Jessup victory in Rohnert Park on Friday afternoon, the series with Sonoma State shifted to McBean Park for a doubleheader on Saturday. In typical McBean fashion, the scoreboard got put to use as Jessup slugged five home runs on the way to a sweep.

Of the five Jessup homers, Drew Andrews contributed three of them, as the senior became just the fourth player in program history to hit three in a game. Andrews' first blast led off the bottom of the first inning, and he added his second with his second plate appearance in the second inning. The third home run came in the last of the eight.

Andrews ended game one 4-for-5 with 7 RBI.

Kayde Iranon also left the yard, his second in as many games, as he added to the first-inning rally with a solo shot of his own.

Earning the win was right-hander Evan Williams, as he was the pitcher of record following starting pitcher Diego Chavez exiting after the fourth inning. In those four frames, Chavez allowed two runs (one earned) on three hits.

Chris Albee and Nolan Thebiay also made appearances out of the bullpen. Thebiay's outing consisted of three hitless innings.

Game two was also highlighted by the Jessup bats, as a six-run third inning put the Warriors on top for good. The big blast came off the bat of Cole Anderson, as he connected on a low pitch that sailed high over the wall for a grand slam. The rally extended with RBI doubles from Cody Antone and Koby Williams.

Left-hander Loren Iwata made his Jessup debut and earned the victory in the seven-inning affair. Iwata allowed two runs on five hits across his four innings on the mound. Tyler Moore followed him with a scoreless fifth inning in relief.

The sweep of the Seawolves gives Jessup a 3-0 start to their Division II era. The Warriors are also 30-2 dating back to the start of last season in games played at McBean Park.

Jessup will split another series next week as they visit Fresno Pacific on Thursday for a doubleheader. The series will then make its way to McBean Park on Saturday for two games. Tickets are on sale HERE.
