LINCOLN, Calif. – It was a strong outing on the mound for the Warriors on Monday as Jessup combined for 16 strikeouts in an 8-4 win against Chaminade. The win kicked off a four-game series with the Silverswords that will stretch over the next two days.
Jessup now sits at 18-8 overall and 15-6 in PacWest action.
The Silverswords got out to a hot start early as Safea Villaruz-Mauai launched a two-run bomb over the center field fence in the first and hit a sacrifice fly in the third to go up 3-0. From there, it was all Warriors as
Cody Antone hit a three-run shot over right-center, and Jessup scored four more in the fourth off of a wild pitch and an error.
Chaminade got one back in the fifth with an RBI single by Cade Fujii, but
Tony Otis answered with an RBI sac fly in the sixth. The Silverswords left 10 runners stranded, while the Warriors left just four runners on.
Freshman
Loren Iwata got the start for Jessup and struck out five in four innings of work, while
Evan Williams struck out seven while allowing just one run and one hit, earning the win. Williams is now 3-1 on the season.
Caleb Markwith was the third Jessup pitcher to toe the rubber on Monday, and he punched out two in the eighth.
Eric Vasser followed Markwith in the ninth, striking out his last two batters.
The Warriors and Silverswords will return to action tomorrow for a doubleheader at McBean Park. Both contests will be seven-inning games, with first pitch being scheduled for 3 p.m.
