LINCOLN, Calif. – It's official: McBean Park is a pitcher-friendly ballpark, as the Warriors again dazzled on the hill on Thursday afternoon. On day one of a four-game series with the Menlo Oaks, the Warriors sent the Oaks packing 24 times, as the bats also did their part to lead Jessup to a Thursday sweep.
The Warriors are now winners of five in a row as they see their PacWest record jump to 10-4. Jessup sits third in the conference, trailing Westmont (12-0) and Point Loma (10-2).
Right-hander
Hailama Swartman got the ball to start game one, and while his outing was strong, he was not the pitcher to steal the show. Swartman left after four innings, allowing three runs on six hits with five strikeouts. He took a no-decision.
The showstopper on Thursday was
Tyler Moore, as the right-hander logged the next four innings in relief, doing so without allowing a single Menlo hit. The Oaks' only base runner against Moore came off a Jessup error in the top of the seventh. Moore earned the win, moving him to 1-1 on the season.
Jake Morell wrapped up the game with a perfect ninth inning in relief.
Menlo struck first in game one as the first pitch of the game was sent over the wall for a solo home run, but back came the Warriors with three runs in the bottom half of the inning to take the lead. Jessup added to the tally with a
Nick Poss home run in the second, and then
Kayde Iranon added to the party with a solo blast to make it 6-1. Jessup would hit its third home run in the fourth, a two-run shot off the bat of
Drew Andrews.
Jessup scored in six of the eight innings they came up to bat, leading to a 12-3 win in the first game of the day.
Game two saw the Warriors turn to
Diego Chavez to continue the win streak, and Chavez was up for the task. Across his 5.2 innings on the mound, Chavez struck out nine batters while allowing five runs on six hits. He is now 3-0 on the season.
Ryan Stone logged 1.1 innings in relief where all four outs came on strikeouts.
The Warriors continued their offensive onslaught, starting with an Iranon RBI triple in the first. Jessup put up three in the first and then added four in the second with runs coming off a Poss double, Iranon single,
Tony Otis double, and a Menlo error. The barrage continued in the fifth when
Cole Anderson hit Jessup's fourth home run of the day, this one a two-run shot to make it 9-3.
Jessup ultimately hung on to win, 10-5.
The series will now take a day off before shifting locations to Atherton, as the Warriors and Oaks will meet up on Saturday for two games at Cartan Field. The double-dip is scheduled for 11 a.m.
