Antone Hits for the Cycle on Sweep Day for Jessup

Cody Antone hit for the cycle in game one; Jack Grant hit his first two home runs of the season in game one

ATHERTON, Calif. – The brooms came out in Atherton on Saturday as Jessup gave their head coach a fitting birthday present with a sweep of the team he once called his own. Highlighted by one of the rarest feats in baseball, Jessup pulled off their second four-game sweep of the season

Jessup is now 15-4 in their first Division II campaign, with their mark in PacWest play improving to 12-4.

The story from day one of the series on Thursday was pitching, as Jessup struck out 24 Oaks across two games. The Warriors responded with 16 punchouts on Saturday, but the highlight makers were the Jessup bats this time around.

The story of game one was the bat of Cody Antone, as he finished the contest 4-for-5 at the dish. Antone singled in the top of the second and followed it up with a home run in the fourth. In the eighth, Antone doubled to right field, placing him a triple away from the cycle. The opportunity to get the cycle came up in the top of the ninth, and with one out, Antone tripled to right-center to cap off a milestone moment.

But he wasn't done there. Antone's red-hot bat saw him go 2-for-4 with a home run and a double in game two.

Shortstop Jack Grant also made his mark in game one as he belted the first two home runs of his season. Grant finished 2-for-5 with four RBI and a pair of runs scored, as his long balls came in the fifth and seventh innings.

The victory in game one went to right-hander Evan Williams, as he logged 3.1 innings in relief after starter Tyler Lamperti was pulled from the game in the fourth inning. Williams did not allow a run during his time on the hill, and he allowed just one hit during that stretch as well.

The game two victory went to lefty Loren Iwata, as he allowed one run on three hits across 4.1 innings on the hill.

Jessup pulled away with a four-run second inning, with the big hit being a two-run single from Tony Otis. The Warriors would continue to pad the lead with a run in the sixth and then four more in the seventh.

The Warriors will now press pause on the PacWest schedule as they will play their second non-conference series of the season next week. Jessup will visit Seaside for two games at CSU Monterey Bay, beginning on Friday at 6 p.m.
