LINCOLN, Calif. – The Warriors honored their 18 seniors prior to Saturday's game against Azusa Pacific and sent them off the right way with a 9-3 win over the Cougars at McBean Stadium to complete the four-game sweep. Jessup brings to an end an 18-4 performance at home this season.
Saturday's win places Jessup 30-15 on the year and they are tied for second in the PacWest Conference at 27-13.
Jessup got it going early as
Kayde Iranon hit the Warriors' seventh home run of the series, a two-run shot over the left field fence. They added two more in the first to go up 4-0 early. Azusa Pacific answered with a run in the second and two runs in the fourth off of hits by Jacob Hayes and Dominic Martinez.
Any hopes of a comeback were shattered in the fifth as Jessup batted through the order, scoring four runs and adding another from a solo home run by
Dominic Ott in the sixth. Iranon led all batters at three for five on the day, while Ott and
Nick Poss were both two for four.
Tyler Lamperti got the win for the Warriors, pitching three innings and striking out three batters. The seniors closed it out in the ninth, with
Beau Yasui,
Kyle Deering, and
Richard Vidal all getting their final moments on the mound in front of the home crowd.
The Warriors will travel to San Francisco State on Tuesday before closing out conference competition on May 1-2 at Point Loma, who are currently tied with the Warriors in the PacWest standings.
