Costa Mesa Road Trip Ends in Loss to Vanguard

Jessup looks to the next PacWest conference series against Concordia Irvine in Southern California next weekend

COSTA MESA, Calif. - A Saturday afternoon matchup ended in a double loss for the Warriors of Jessup. In a four-game series, Vanguard came out on top with a final score in game one of 14-5 and a second game final score of 3-0.

The Warriors now move to 21-11 in conference and 24-13 overall and sit in third place below Point Loma and Westmont.

Diego Chavez, Jesusp's game-one starter, tossed four innings, earning the loss on the day and his third of the season. Caleb Markwith (3.0 innings pitched) and Tyler Moore (1.0 innings pitched) came into relief after the starting righty.

The Lion's offense came out hot as leadoff hitter Jaxson Davis led off the bottom of the inning with a leadoff solo home run. Vanguard would tally two more runs in the second inning to give the Lions a 3-0 lead.

The big bats of Dom Ott and Nick Poss both saw solo shots back to back to cut the lead to 3-2. Unfortunately, the Lions' offense continued to scratch runs across the board to end game one of the day with a final score of 14-5. Both squads hit a total of six home runs in game one.

Game two also favored the hosting team with a final score of 3-0. Eric Vasser started on the bump for the Warriors and saw his second loss of the season, currently 1-2.

Vanguard struck first, scoring two runs in the third and bringing another run across in the fifth. Jessup would remain scoreless through seven innings of game two, and the Lions would secure victory number two on the day.

Jessup will return home for the week before returning to Southern California for a four-game matchup with the Golden Eagles of Concordia Irvine.
