Campbell Stands Alone! Jessup’s Sweep Cements a New Program Wins Leader

Brie Campbell surpassed Kevin Amick for the most wins in program history; Maddy Ybarra hit two home runs in game two

LINCOLN, Calif. – A new name stands at the top of the all-time wins list for Jessup Softball as Saturday's sweep of Menlo produced history. In comeback fashion in both games, Jessup pushes their win streak to five and keeps them in the hunt for a PacWest title.

Brie Campbell, who took the reigns as the head coach of Jessup Softball in the 2020 season, now holds a record of 157-100 in that role. She came into Saturday trailing Kevin Amick (2012-2018) by one win for the most in program history. The Warriors' sweep of Menlo cements her name at the top as she holds the title of the winningest coach in program history.

Campbell has a lifetime winning percentage of .611.

The victory that tied Campbell with Amick was a 4-3 comeback in game one of Saturday's double-dip. Menlo scored first with a run in the fourth, but Jessup countered with four in the bottom half. Rebekah Beasley tied the game with an RBI single and then Maddy Ybarra reached on an infield single that later allowed Beasley to score on a throwing error.

Jessup's fourth-inning rally continued with a Sarah Giles RBI double. Aaliyah Pineda drove in the final run with an RBI single.

Menlo tacked on two in the seventh, but the tying run was left stranded on third.

Bella MacFarlane earned the victory after allowing three runs (two earned) across six innings in the circle. Jazlyn Villavicencio closed the door and recorded the final three outs, earning her the save.

Game two would again see the Warriors have to play from behind as Menlo tagged Jessup for two in the second. A Pineda RBI single in the fourth cut the deficit in half, but it would be Ybarra who eventually stole the show.

Ybarra gave the Warriors the lead in the fifth with a three-run home run, tying her with Giles for the PacWest lead. After a Malia Ishii RBI and a Beasley sac fly in the sixth, Ybarra stepped up again and blasted her second home run of the day to make it 9-2.

Villavicencio claimed the victory in her second relief appearance of the day. She tossed three shutout innings. Alexandria Himes allowed two runs across four innings in her start.

Jessup is now 17-8 in PacWest action with Saturday's sweep. Biola leads the conference at 19-5, followed by Concordia with a 19-7 record.

The Warriors will return to Foskett Regional Park on Friday when they start day one of a home-and-home series with Dominican. The two Lincoln games are scheduled to start at 3 p.m.
