SEASON REWIND: Softball Hoists Hardware to End First Division II Season

Jessup won the 2025 NCCAA National Championship; Maddy Ybarra earned PacWest Player of the Year

07/21/25

LINCOLN – The inaugural Division II season for Jessup's softball program was nothing short of a success. Coming off a runner-up finish in the 2024 NAIA Softball World Series, the Warriors flipped the script in 2025 as they won their final game to hoist hardware at the season's end.

Head coach Brie Campbell and her Warriors finished the season 37-21, posting a 24-12 mark in PacWest action along the way. Campbell paired personal success with her team's accolades as she became the all-time winningest coach in program history midway through the season.

Through six seasons, Campbell is 169-104 as Jessup's head coach.

The Warriors opened their first Division II season with a gauntlet schedule. Jessup's first 11 games were on the road, including five games in three days at the Tournament of Champions.

After 11 contests, Jessup made its home debut with a doubleheader against Simpson on February 21. The homestand was short-lived as the Warriors returned to the road the following week for the start of PacWest play and the team's second 11-game road trip of the year.

Jessup jumped into conference action with a series-opening victory at Biola. Following the series loss, Jessup moved to Costa Mesa for a three-game set with Vanguard. Jessup took the series thanks to back-to-back shutouts, sending the Warriors back to Northern California.

The road trip came to an end after a sweep in Atherton, but a return to Foskett Regional Park would not occur just yet, as rain forced games to be played in Sacramento. A sweep of Chaminade took Jessup to American River College and Foothill HS. Jessup returned to ARC for a three-game series with Hawaii Hilo.

Mixed into the Chaminade series was the ring ceremony to honor the World Series runner-up finish from the 2024 season.

Jessup hit its stride near the end of March when another Southern California trip began with a split in Azusa. The Warriors then traveled to Irvine to take on Concordia, a team ranked No. 21 in the nation. A loss opened the series, but Jessup bounced back to win three straight and take the series, 3-1.

A sweep of Menlo followed once Jessup returned to Lincoln.

The regular season concluded with a series win against Hawaii Pacific, followed by a sweep of Academy of Art. Jessup closed out the regular season third in the PacWest, but due to the university's provisional NCAA membership, Jessup was ineligible for all NCAA and PacWest postseason competition.

Jessup will be postseason eligible for the 2026 season.

While Jessup could not play for a PacWest title, postseason softball was still on the table as Jessup earned the top seed in the NCCAA Softball World Series. Over the course of three days in Dallas, Jessup went 5-0, capping off their run with a 3-2 victory over Mid-America Christian to capture the NCCAA National Championship.

There were numerous individual accolades to accompany the team's success. Junior Maddy Ybarra claimed PacWest Player of the Year following a .414 average with 12 home runs and 62 RBI in the regular season. Ybarra also ended the regular season third in Division II with 53 stolen bases. Seniors Sarah Giles and Madisyn Leffle joined Ybarra with First-Team PacWest All-Conference selections.

Ybarra and Giles later added NCCAA All-Tournament honors, with Giles earning Most Outstanding Player. Leffle added one more award with her selection to the CSC Academic All-American team. Campbell earned postseason honors as NCCAA Coach of the Year.

The 2025 season was one for the record books. Jessup finished with the ending they deserved as they continue to lay the foundation for teams to come.
