ROCKLIN, Calif. - Jessup University's Men's Soccer fell just short in their loss to the University of Hawaii-Hilo on Monday, September 29th, 2025. Though the Warriors were able to net one, the home team dropped their second conference matchup, 1-3.
"I think we need to figure out our set pieces," Warriors coach Greg Lazaga said. "Figure out our physicality, how to clear the ball high and wide. Those are some things that have been showing themselves that we really need to improve on. There has been improvement, but we need to clean it up."
The visiting Vulcans scored twice in the first 25 minutes, first from Lucas Stark in the 14th minute followed by Iago Perez Ferreiro in the 23rd minute.
Despite the early barrage from the Vulcans with eight shots in the first half, the Warriors continued to fight and got one back in the 42nd minute from Jose Perez. The goal was assisted by Luis Cruz and Jesus Rios.
"I think that the character of these guys is that they are fighters, which is good," Lazaga said. "We'll take that any day. Now we have to figure out how to eliminate some of the silly mistakes and continue being the fighters and I think we'll get better results."
Hawaii-Hilo added a third goal in the second half off of a strike by Aidan Santos in the 61st minute. The Vulcans finished with 16 shots and seven on goal while Jessup totaled six shots with three on target. Warriors goalkeeper Alonso Ruiz finished the match with four saves while Vulcans goalkeeper Paul Waschkau had one save.
There were three total cautions in the match, two for the Vulcans including Takato Awai and Stark while Cruz was booked for Jessup.
The Warriors will now hit the road for four matches starting with Biola University on Thursday, October 2nd. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. Jessup's next home match will be on Oct. 18 against Dominican University.
