IRVINE, Calif. – Jessup women's basketball team began their Southern California road trip on Thursday, taking on the Golden Eagles of Concordia Irvine, 45-73.
Despite a pair of Warriors finishing in double figures, the offense struggled to find its rhythm from deep as Jessup dropped their second game to Concordia on the season.
It was a tough shooting night for the Warriors, who were unable to connect from three-point range (0-for-6) while the Golden Eagles found success from the perimeter, knocking down eight triples at a 42-percent clip.
Raylyn Fergerson led the offensive charge for the Warriors, finishing with a team-high 13 points on 6-of-10 shooting. Mirella Fernandes Boshell also finished in double figures, adding 12 points and pulling down a team-high five rebounds.
The game began with the Warriors fighting to keep pace, but an early offensive surge from the home side saw Concordia take a 17-10 lead after the first ten minutes. Jessup found some scoring traction in the second quarter, putting up 14 points, but the Golden Eagles responded with a 23-point frame to take a 40-24 advantage into the halftime break.
Concordia's Asia Darcuiel proved to be the difference-maker on the night, leading all scorers with 29 points on 9-of-21 shooting.
Jessup looked to chip away at the deficit in the second half, but the Golden Eagles controlled the glass, winning the rebounding battle 43-27. The rebounding margin, combined with 20 Jessup turnovers, allowed Concordia to maintain their lead throughout the final two quarters.
Aniah Cross added six points and four rebounds for the Warriors, while Andheya Aurelio and Laia Palà also chipped in six points apiece.
With the loss, Jessup moves to 5-14 overall on the season and 3-10 in conference play.
The Warriors will look to bounce back quickly as they continue their Southern California road trip this weekend. Jessup heads to La Mirada on Saturday, January 31, to take on Biola University. Tip-off is scheduled for 5:30 PM.
