HILO, HI – The Warriors crossed the Pacific Ocean for a stint with the Hawaii Hilo Vulcans on Thursday night. In a hard-fought PacWest battle, the Vulcans used a dominant fourth-quarter performance to secure a 60-52 victory over the Warriors. This loss puts the Warriors at 4-14 in PacWest play and 6-18 overall.
The contest was a defensive struggle for the first three periods, characterized by significant shifts in momentum. Hawaii Hilo held a narrow 24-12 lead at halftime after Jessup struggled to find its rhythm in the opening frame, scoring only six points. However, Jessup surged back in the second quarter, outscoring UHH 24-12.
The third quarter saw both teams struggle offensively, with each adding only 10 points to their respective totals and entering the final period tied at 42-42.
The fourth quarter featured a busy final two minutes defined by fouls and turnovers from both squads. With the score remaining within one point, Hilo capitalized on fouls committed by the Warriors to move ahead 50-47.
Facing a three-point deficit, the Warriors put the ball in the hands of Andheya Aurelio, who sank a three-pointer to tie the game at 50 apiece following an assist from Hailey Hoff. The Vulcans, however, took advantage of extra points from the free-throw line to secure a 60-52 win in the final minute, outscoring Jessup 26 to 12 in the final quarter.
Andheya Aurelio led the way for Jessup with 15 points, including three makes from beyond the arc. Porter Wood recorded a double-double with 13 points and 10 rebounds, while Laia Pala contributed 7 points, 5 rebounds, and 2 steals.
Jessup will continue their Hawaii road trip and take on Chaminade University this Saturday at 4:00 PM.Â
