Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Warriors Fall to First Place Vanguard

ROCKLIN, Calif. – Jessup women's basketball (8-19, 6-15 PacWest) hosted the Vanguard Lions (21-4, 17-3 PacWest) Tuesday night, 83-64.

In an early week meeting, the Warriors welcomed the first place team in the PacWest Conference. After a long trip to the islands in which Jessup took two of three from their Hawaii opponents, they returned home to face off against the Vanguard Lions.

Jessup competed early one as Claudia Jiménez drained a three from beyond the arc to put the Warriors within one, 9-8. A minute later, Hailey Hoff continued her three-point prowess and jumped the Warriors ahead of the Lions, 13-11. Vanguard regained their lead as the first quarter came to a close, 22-17.

Jessup showed flashes of offensive fortitude when Andheya Aurelio sank a triple of her own, 27-20. What followed was a run by Jessup to tie the matchup. A jumper and three from Laia Pala with a pair of good free throws from Porter Wood, 29-29. The Lions went on a run of their own to hold an eleven point lead at half, 46-35.

For the remainder of the game, Vanguard grew their lead with Jessup's efforts not enough to keep up. The Lions held a consistent 20 point advantage, to defeat Jessup, 83-64. Wood led both sides in scoring with her 15 points, four rebounds and an assist. Aurelio and Ella Baumgartner led the Warriors in boards with five each as Aurelio led her team with four assists.

Head Coach Corey Laster praised his team's grit and their opponent, "We liked the effort tonight against Vanguard who is an impressive team and we are going to work to get to that level moving forward."

Jessup women's basketball is set to play their final game of the 2025-26 season at home on Saturday, February 28th. Saturday will be senior day for the Warriors with tipoff scheduled for 1:00 PM.
