Game Recap: Men's Volleyball |

Warriors Push No. 7 Pepperdine in Four-Set Showdown

ROCKLIN, Calif. – The Jessup University men's volleyball team faced one of its toughest tests of the season on Friday night, welcoming the No. 7 Pepperdine University Waves to Warrior Arena.

In front of an energized home crowd, the Warriors proved they could go toe-to-toe with a collegiate Division I powerhouse, snagging a thrilling second-set victory before the Waves ultimately took the match 3-1 (21-25, 27-25, 17-25, 9-25).

The opening set saw Jessup come out swinging as they hosted their first Division I opponent. The Warriors traded heavy blows with the Waves early on, executing crisp passes and finding the hardwood. Kills from Clement Osahon Jr., Jonas Mueller and Jacob Knudsen kept the Warriors competing throughout the first set.

Despite the early surge and an aggressive offensive attack from the Warriors, Pepperdine managed to leverage their size down the stretch, using a late run to edge out Jessup 25-21 in set one, 1-0.

The highlight of the night came in a dramatic, back-and-forth second set. Jessup refused to back down, matching the Waves point for point in a frame that featured several extended rallies and lead changes. The Warriors executed a series of impactful plays down the stretch including massive momentum shifting kills from the outside and incredibly scrappy defensive saves to extend rallies.

At the 24th point, Osahon Jr. continued his successful night at the net and leapt to strike down a kill to put the second set at match point, 25-24. The Waves retaliated to force the second set into extra points. In a similar spot, Colin Marks assisted Osahon Jr. to smack down another kill to get his team ahead yet again, 26-25. Jessup took the second set 27-25 and electrified the home crowd and the team bench, 1-1.

After the exciting and tight second set, the No. 7 Waves responded in the third. Pepperdine's attack found its rhythm, engineered by relentless serving and a heavy offensive presence that proved difficult to slow down. Jessup battled hard to stay within striking distance through the middle of the frame, but the Waves pulled away to take the third set 25-17 Pepperdine carried that momentum into the fourth and final set, suffocating the Warriors' passing lanes and minimizing errors to close out the match with a decisive 25-9 finish.

Despite the final result, Jessup saw brilliant individual performances across the box score. Clement Osahon Jr. paced the Warriors' offense with a team-high 12 kills, while Jan Lopuch and Jonas Mueller contributed heavily with 10 kills apiece. The offensive distribution was masterfully orchestrated by setter Colin Marks, who handed out 32 assists while also tying for the team lead in blocks (3) and scooping up 6 digs. Defensively, Jacob Knudsen anchored the back row with a team-high 7 digs, and Osahon Jr. added 3 blocks and an ace to round out his stellar night on the court.

Head Coach Kyle Steele praised his team's energy, "I was very proud of our competitive effort to start the match as we opened with a ton of energy and confidence. It was fun to watch us compete at that level against the No. 7 team in the country."

The Warriors are back tomorrow night, Saturday 28th, for round two against the Pepperdine Waves. First serve is scheduled for 7:00 PM.
