ROCKLIN, Calif. – Jessup men's volleyball hosted their second consecutive MPSF matchup against the No. 7 ranked Pepperdine University Waves, 0-3 (25-18, 25-21, 25-20).Â
In a Saturday night showdown at Warrior Arena, the Warriors competed with the #7 team in the nation for the second night in a row. Despite a resilient effort and double-digit kill performances from the Warrior attack, Jessup fell in straight sets to the Division I powerhouse.
The Warriors showed no fear early in the match, matching the Waves' intensity at the net. Jessup fell in the first set but pushed the Waves further as the game continued, 25-18. In the second set, Jessup found their rhythm offensively, hitting at an impressive .417 clip. Clement Osahon Jr. and Jan Lopuch led the charge, frequently finding gaps in the Waves' defense to keep the set within reach. A late surge in set two saw Lopuch ignite the home crowd with back-to-back service aces, trimming the Pepperdine lead to 24-21 before the Waves finally closed the door.
Set three saw the Warriors push the #7 team in the nation to the limit. Jessup capitalized on several impactful plays, including a clinical kill by Jacob Knudsen and a service ace from Colin Marks that kept the score knotted late into the frame. The Warriors stayed within a point at 19-18 following a kill by Osahon Jr., but Pepperdine's veteran composure proved to be the difference. The Waves utilized a late 4-0 run to pull away and secure the conference victory.
Leading the way for Jessup was the duo of Clement Osahon Jr. and Jan Lopuch, who both finished the night with 10 kills apiece to pace the Warrior offense. Colin Marks orchestrated the attack with a team-high 30 assists while remaining a threat from the service line with two aces, a mark matched by Lopuch. Defensively, the Warriors were anchored by Marks and Jonas Müller, who each recorded four digs, followed closely by Logan Marks and Rayphe Froese with three each. At the net, Jessup's defensive presence was a collective effort, with Osahon Jr., Lopuch, and Colin Marks each being credited with a block. Jacob Knudsen provided additional offensive efficiency, contributing six kills on a stellar .500 hitting percentage.
Head Coach Kyle Steele spoke about the team's competitiveness against the #7 team. Tonight was a huge step in the right direction for us as we were competitive from start to finish". He continued, " We responded well after last night's set four and we are right there with the top 10 teams as we continue to learn and grow."Â
Looking ahead, the Warriors will be back at Warrior Arena in a week. Jessup will host BYU on Saturday, March 7th with first service scheduled for 7:00 PM.Â
