Pedretti’s Heptathlon Highlights Warriors' PacWest Championship Appearance

04/25/26

SAN DIEGO, Calif. - Jessup University men's and women's track and field teams traveled down to San Diego this weekend, making their highly anticipated debut at the Pacific West Conference Track and Field Championships.

Hosted by Point Loma Nazarene University from April 24-25, the two-day event tested the Warriors against the premier talent of their NCAA Division II conference foes.

The undisputed highlight of the weekend for Jessup came from multi-event standout Jocelyn Pedretti, who put together a masterful performance in the women's Heptathlon. Pedretti racked up 4523 points to secure a 4th-place finish overall, taking 3rd place in both the javelin throw (31.69m) and the long jump (5.46m). Outside of the heptathlon, she also secured a 9th-place finish in the open discus (39.68m). The Jessup throwing unit saw further success from Shiloh Vallejos, who competed in four events and highlighted her weekend with a 7th-place finish in the shot put (12.38m). In the jumps, Aurora Osburn showcased her versatility across the pole vault, high jump, and long jump, while Jaylee Hameister cleared 1.39m in the high jump.

Over on the track, Mary Stuart ran a phenomenal 800m, clocking a 2:17.08 in the preliminaries before battling to a 7th-place finish in the finals (2:16.93). Angela Gladysh navigated the grueling 5000m run with precision, capturing an impressive 6th-place finish with a time of 17:34.72. Erica Waseq continued to be a driving force in the short hurdles, advancing out of the prelims and finishing 7th in the 100m hurdles finals at 14.89. Waseq also joined forces with Kayla Carpenter, Osburn, and Kimora Hill-Brown in the 4x100m relay, where the quartet finished 8th (51.84).

On the men's side, Ephraim Schmidt delivered the top track performance, fighting his way to an 8th-place finish in the 400m hurdles (58.32). Antonio Leal paced the short sprints with a 12th-place finish in the 400m dash (50.78), followed by Logan Scammell, while Noah Sasaki represented Jessup in the 100m and 200m dashes. In the field, Lucas Patterson took on a heavy workload across three throwing events, claiming 11th overall in the discus (39.59m). The men's long jump pit saw Rogelio San Miguel lead the Warriors with a 13th-place leap of 6.31m, closely followed by Ethan Poirier (6.18m).

With the PacWest Conference Championships officially in the books, qualifying athletes will have a final opportunity to secure their spots at the NCAA Men's and Women's Outdoor Track and Field Championships by competing in the Last Chance Meet scheduled for May 8th.
