IRVINE, Calif. – Jessup men's volleyball team delivered a resounding statement on the road Friday night, sweeping Concordia University Irvine 3-0 (25-22, 25-17, 27-25).
Firing on all cylinders offensively, the Warriors earned a crucial MPSF victory just 24 hours after a tough four-set defeat in the same arena.
The Warriors established their rhythm early in the opening frame. Fueled by a crisp attack that hit .375 in the first set, Jessup kept the Golden Eagles on their heels. Backed by the steady offensive execution of Jan Lopuch and Jonas Müller, the Warriors maintained a narrow but consistent edge to secure a 25-22 first-set victory.
Carrying that momentum into the second set, Jessup's offensive clinic continued while their block and defense tightened. The Warriors limited CUI to a meager .100 hitting percentage in the middle frame, capitalizing on Golden Eagle errors to comfortably cruise to a 25-17 win and establish a commanding 2-0 match advantage.
The third set proved to be a grueling back-and-forth battle as Concordia refused to go down quietly on their home court. The Golden Eagles found their offensive footing, but the Warriors answered with an explosive display of their own. Racking up a staggering 23 kills in the third set alone and hitting .459, Jessup traded blows with CUI before pushing past the Golden Eagles in extra points to clinch the match with a gritty 27-25 win.
Jan Lopuch paced the Jessup attack with a match-high 14 kills. Jonas Müller followed closely behind with 12 kills and led the defensive effort with 8 digs. Clement Osahon Jr. was nearly unstoppable in the middle, putting away 10 kills on a scorching .714 hitting percentage while anchoring the defense with a team-high three blocks. Colin Marks expertly orchestrated the offense from start to finish, dishing out a remarkable 40 assists to help the Warriors achieve a collective .408 hitting percentage on the night.
Reflecting on the turnaround, head coach Kyle Steele praised his squad's resilience. "Super happy with the team's response after last night, that we came out with a lot of fire, a lot of grit," Steele remarked. "Our first ball side out was very steady tonight and I just really enjoyed the passion the guys played with, and I was happy to get a 3-0 sweep on the road."
With the impressive bounce-back win secured, the Warriors will look to carry this momentum back to Northern California. Jessup returns to action on Wednesday, April 15, when they travel to face UC Merced at 6:00 PM.
