MERCED, Calif. – Behind a high-powered offense and a dominant presence at the net, the Warriors claimed a 3-1 victory over UC Merced on the Wednesday night road contest. Jessup overcame the Bobcats in a tightly contested match, finishing with scores of 28-26, 23-25, 25-12, and 25-19.
With the win, Jessup improves to 10-15 overall and 4-9 in conference play.
The opening set was a marathon as Jessup eventually outlasted the Bobcats 28-26 fueled by 19 kills in the frame. While UC Merced managed to steal the second set 25-23 to even the match, the Warriors responded with absolute authority in the third. Jessup turned in a nearly flawless third frame, recording 16 kills. The Warriors maintained that momentum through the fourth set to close out the night and secure the road win.
The Jessup attack was led by a pair of heavy hitters. Jan Lopuch recorded a match-high 17 kills while adding two solo blocks and six digs to his stat line. Supporting the effort, Jonas Mueller provided 16 kills and contributed two block assists. Owen Henning and Clement Osahon Jr. were equally effective at the net, combining for 15 kills, while Henning added seven digs and Osahon Jr. anchored the defense with two blocks.
Facilitating the offense was Colin Marks, who tallied 43 assists and orchestrated a Jessup attack that finished with 59 total kills. Defensively, Jacob Knudsen led the back row with 11 digs.
The Warriors will return home to take on UC Merced again this Friday at 7:00 PM at Warrior Arena. Friday will also be Senior Night for the graduating Warriors with the ceremony set to begin after the game.Â
