Track and Field Makes Their Mark

Gladysh continues phenomenal freshman season; Pedretti places 4th in PacWest heptathlon

08/19/26

ROCKLIN, Calif. - In their second season in the NCAA, Jessup Track and Field continued their upward trajectory as a program. Coming off an impressive showing at the NCCAA Championships, the program saw impressive performances from familiar faces, as well as a fresh batch of new talent that will look to build off of the year they had.

The season began in Reno at the Silver and Blue Invitational in early January as the Warriors began their indoor track and field season. The meet was highlighted by freshman standout Angela Gladysh, who finished third in a field of 13 in the 3000-meter race, logging a time of 10:51.49. Her performance, along with the early batch of competitors opening up their season with impressive marks, signaled good signs for the rest of the season. Jessup would return to Reno a week later to compete in the Nevada Invitational, an event filled with a field of D1 and D2 talent across the board. Angela Gladysh shined once again with a 13th-place finish in the one-mile run, and Erica Waseq broke the top 20 in the 60-meter hurdles. The best was yet to come in Reno, however, as the Warriors would return three weeks later for the Wolf Pack Classic, where three program records were broken. Angela Gladysh would continue the trend of breaking records after her historic cross-country season, breaking the school record in the 1-mile run with a time of 5:26.50. Not long after, Mary Stuart would join the party, running a 2:24.27 800-meter run, breaking the school's record in that event. On the shorter side of competitions, Erica Waseq sprinted her way into the record book, breaking the program's 60-meter dash record with a time of 7.82. With the indoor season in the books, the team would shift its focus to the outdoor portion of the season.

An incredible showing to begin the outdoor season was the mark the track and field team needed to bring their momentum and confidence to the next level, and that is exactly what took place at the Kim Dyust Invitational at Stanislaus State. Angela Gladysh would once again be the highlight of the event, finishing first in the 5000-meter run and coming within less than half a second of the school record. On the men's side, Rogelio San Miguel was the highlight performer of the week, taking a second-place finish in the high jump with a mark of 1.95 meters. While individual success was on display in Turlock, the team put together a solid third-place performance at the Chico Invitational the week after. This point-filled weekend was highlighted by Aurora Osburn's first-place triple jump finish, where she posted a mark of 10.61 meters. Rogelio San Miguel logged another top-three finish, clearing two meters in the high jump en route to a third-place finish, and Shiloh Vallejos and Ephraim Schmidt were the runner-ups in shot put and the 400-meter dash, respectively. The week after, San Miguel continued his phenomenal start to the season, taking first place in the high jump and triple jump events at the Aggie Open in Davis. A load of top-three finishes was also on display for the Warriors at this event, including Aurora Osburn, Erica Waseq, Shiloh Vallejos, Jocelyn Pedretti, and Angela Gladysh. These performances and more led the Warriors to a second-place team finish at the event.

As the end of the regular season neared, more top-ten finishes and solid performances were achieved across the board by the Warriors, including a couple of fourth-place finishes by Erica Waseq (100-meter dash) and Jocelyn Pedretti (Long Jump) at the Wildcat Invitational in Chico. With the regular season behind them, the Warriors headed to San Diego for the PacWest Championships, hosted by Point Loma. This event would be the final test for a number of seniors, and the results were a great sign for the future of the program.

Leading the way for the Warriors in her signature event was heptathlete Jocelyn Pedretti. The defending NCCAA National Champion put on a show in her final collegiate meet, finishing in fourth place in the PacWest and scoring 4,523 points. During the heptathlon, she would podium in two events, taking third place in both javelin and long jump. This score was truly historic, as she finished the meet with the third-best heptathlon in school history. Outside of Pedretti's performance, several Warriors secured top-ten finishes, such as Shiloh Vallejos, who finished seventh in shot put with a throw of 12.38 meters. On the track, Angela Gladysh capped off her phenomenal freshman season with a sixth-place finish in the 5000-meter run, logging a time of 17:34.72, while Mary Stuart and Erica Waseq finished seventh in the 800-meter race and 100-meter hurdles, respectively. Ephraim Schmidt led the way for Jessup on the men's side of the track with an eighth-place finish in the 400-meter hurdles, and the women gave one final top-ten performance, with the foursome of Erica Waseq, Kayla Carpenter, Aurora Osburn, and Kimora Hill-Brown finishing in eighth place in the 4x100-meter race.

The Warriors finished the 2026 Track and Field season on an incredibly high note, and the performances of young talent such as Angela Gladysh signal major strides ahead for the future of this program, built on legacy-defining performances such as Jocelyn Pedretti's PacWest heptathlon. New head coach Jordan Kurtz will look to build off of this success in his first season next year.
