ROCKLIN, Calif. - It wasn't Jessup's day on Thursday at Warrior Field as the men's soccer team trailed early and were unable to score despite totaling four shots on target in a 3-0 loss to Menlo College.
The Oaks got on the board in the 11th minute as a long ball led to a Davis Boogman goal off of an assist from Hugo Few. Menlo continued to get space in the second half and converted again as Few found Tim Schwarz in the 55th minute. They added an insurance goal just over 15 minutes later as Enrico Ehret scored from an assist by Liam Brittenstam and Marcos Garcia. Menlo finished the match with 15 shots and nine on goal.Â
Jessup did have its opportunities, including in the 41st minute when
Jordee Magana looked like he was going to tie the game, but Menlo goalkeeper Vebjoern Madshus made an incredible save with his right hand. Madshus made four saves in Thursday's match for the Oaks. Magana had two shots, both on target, for the Warriors while
Maximas Ganesh and
Anthony Gambe also had shots on frame. The Warriors finished the match with eight total shots.
Curtis Lynch made two saves in goal for Jessup while
Eduardo Enriquez totaled four saves.Â
There were six cautions in the contest, three on each team. For Menlo, James Downes, Manuel Portillo, and Liam Elliott were all issued yellow cards in the first half. Jessup's three yellow cards each came in the second half as
Israel Langlois,
Blake Moore and Enriquez were all booked.Â
"Not much I can say besides we didn't play with the same passion we have played with recently," head coach
Greg Lazaga said. "We saw it early, and never forced our will and our style of game for long enough, all the credit to Menlo.
Our team has proven to be high character guys who learn and adapt, I love that about this team. We are going to have to learn and adapt from this one. Return and refresh tomorrow as we look forward to the opportunity of the next one."
The Warriors will be back in action on Saturday as they face UC Merced at Warrior Field in Rocklin. Kickoff is scheduled for 2 p.m.
