Jessup women's basketball players gathered with their friends and families last Saturday for an opportunity to meet and fellowship while watching the Warrior team showcase their hard earned skills.
The event also allowed families of returning Warriors the opportunity to meet those from this year's recruiting class.
The evening started with Jessup players greeting their families in the foyer of Warrior Arena before taking them out on the court for photos. Players introduced themselves, expressing their excitement for the upcoming season before beginning a series of warm-ups. The team split into red and white practice jerseys in preparation to compete in two 15-minute periods.
"This was a fantastic opportunity to show our players' parents and families their growth on the court," said head women's basketball coach Emilie Blate. "It is a great bunch of girls and we are honored that they and their families came to Jessup. The players have been working hard through the offseason and in practices, we are very excited about this season."
After the scrimmage, relatives were allowed to join in the fun. Each player chose one family member or friend to compete in a two-ball dribble relay and a free-throw competition. This proved an entertaining part of the event as mothers, fathers, brother and sisters in the stands cheered on their counterparts attempting to keep up with the well-practiced Warrior squad.
The games ended and families descended upon Crossroads Café for a well-earned dinner. Senior players Olivia Nelson, Megan Scully, Crystal Sewell, Alex Rodriguez, and Diana Corona gave quick talks, and a raffle concluded the night as Warrior gear brought smiles to many. One of the largest smiles came from Sophomore Cara Tortorich's mother who won a pair of brand new shoes. Lastly, Coaches Emilie Blate and Mac Blate spoke to the families about how proud they are of the teams' effort this preseason.
Jessup women's basketball will be in the spotlight again over the next two Saturdays as they host the first-ever Jessup Jamboree featuring local high school aged teams on Saturday, October 3rd and Saturday, October 10th from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. in the Warrior Arena and Activity Center.
