MONTEREY, Calif. - The William Jessup men's golf team hit the west coast for the Pacific Coast Highway Invite competing in a pool of five teams at the Del Monte Golf Course in Monterey. It was a strong showing for the Warriors in the first round as they were tied for first with the host team, Menlo College and finished their final round on Tuesday taking second overall.

Head coach in his first season Matthew Robinson said, "We played well. It was our second tournament and we came up a little short but it was a big improvement. The work is paying off we just keep going."

The Warriors scored an opening round 297 good enough for first place as the Jessup fleet was led by returnee Hunter Newlin who was tied for first overall at one-under par. Another round would be played on day one as the team finished with a 298 as the Warriors dropped to second and the Oaks took a 7-stroke lead.

The final day of competition on the greens saw a tournament-low 288 from Oregon Tech as the Warriors shot a second-best for the final round 293 closing the gap with the Oaks, but the Owls would take the tournament title, Jessup closing in as runner-up.

Junior transfer Grant McCay would finish at the top of the leaderboard for Jessup taking second overall just three over par (73-68-75) as sophomore Newlin finished third in the tournament at just five over par. 

The next fall invite will be played November 5-6 at the NAIA National Preview in Mesa, Ariz.
